Meet The Characters

Moles

• Mr. Resetti - Mr. Resetti is a mole whose full name is Sonny Resetti. He would often scold the players whenever they reset too much to stop the game without saving.

• Don Resetti - Don Resetti is a mole who works at the Reset Intervention Bureau (which was later renamed the Resetti Surveillance Center) and is the younger brother of Mr. Resetti. Unlike his older brother, Don would advise the player to save their progress.

Owls

• Blathers - Blathers is an owl scholar who is the curator of the local museum and is the older brother of Celeste. He accepts donations of fish, insects, fossils, and paintings. He is very knowledgeable and informative, usually giving information on any object donated to the museum, and he will often apologize for his lengthy explanation.

• Celeste - Celeste is an owl who works in the museum's observatory and is the younger sister of Blathers. Unlike her brother, Celeste is a sensitive, calm, and quiet character. In New Leaf, Celeste sells items unique to the museum and also assists in setting display rooms for the player. This second floor with Celeste is a Public Works Project suggested by Blathers.

Pelicans

• Pelly - Pelly is a female pelican who works at the local post office and is the younger sister of Phyllis. She works as a clerk during her daytime shift. She is in love with Pete, but is too shy to mention it to him. Unlike Phyllis, she appears to enjoy her work.

• Pete - Pete is a pelican who works as a mail carrier. When the player earns his trust, he will tell them his romances of Pelly and Phyllis.

• Phyllis - Phyllis is a female pelican who works at the local post officer and is the older sister of Pelly. She works as a clerk during her nighttime shift. While Pelly enjoys her shift, Phyllis does not enjoy her shift.

Hedgehogs

• Labelle - Labelle is a hedgehog who works as a clerk at the Gracie Gracie. In New Leaf, Labelle runs the accessories side of the Able Sisters' shop instead of working at GracieGrace. Her real name as told by Sable is Label.

• Mabel Able - Mabel is a hedgehog who is the co-owner of the Able Sisters' Tailor Shop and is the younger sister of Sable. She is the charismatic one out of the sisters, who assists customers with their purchases.

• Sable Able - Sable is a hedgehog who is the co-owner of the Able Sisters' Tailor Shop and is the older sister of Mable and Labelle. She is a shy character who works in the background while her sister assists the customers.

Tanukis/Raccoons

• Tom Nook - Tom Nook is a tanuki. He would sell the player a house at the beginning of the series and give them a set of mortgages for them to pay and allow them to upgrade it after the mortgage is paid off. He has a varied reputation among villagers, some of whom speculate that he is a man in a suit. He appears in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

• Timmy and Tommy - Timmy and Tommy are twin tanukis who work at Tom Nook's Store. They look after the upper floor of Nookington's (the final stage in the upgrades for Nook's store). In New Leaf they start their own shop called Nookling Junction.

Principal Villagers

The following do not fit the categories of the other animals listed and are supporting characters:

• Blanca - Blanca is a white cat with a blank face. The players always have to draw a face on the blank part of her head everytime they encounter her without a face. Blanca's gender is widely disputed.

• Booker - Booker is a bulldog that works as a police officer.

• Brewster - Brewster is a pigeon who works on the lower floor of the museum. He is quiet and reserved pigeon with an interest in coffee. Brewster also has an interest in collecting gyroids.

• Chip - Chip is a beaver who hosts the fishing tournaments every Sunday in June and November in all games apart from Wild World, where Tortimer assumes the judge role. His Japanese name is うおまさ (Uomasa).

• Clerk - An unseen clerk who sells tickets at the Marquee. She is always behind the counter and nobody knows what she looks like.

• Copper - Copper is a dog who works as a police officer. He appears in every game in the series, though his roles differer amongst them. He makes an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

• Cornimer - A tortoise in an acorn mask who only comes out during the Acorn Festival. Cornimer is on an obtainable sticker in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Some believe that he is Tortimer in disguise.

• Cyrus - A blue alpaca who appears in New Leaf. He works at Re-Tail with his wife, Reese. At the beginning of the game he is unavailable and is seen sleeping at his desk, and the player must sell 100,000 bells worth of items to Reese, have been in the town at least 7 days, and have at least 50 pieces of furniture and 10 articles of clothing in their catalog before they can talk to him.

• Digby - A brown dog in charge of the Happy Home Showcase in New Leaf.

• Dr. Shrunk - Dr. Shrunk is an axolotl who works as a psychologist in Wild World, and a comedian and club owner in later games. He helps the players into getting in touch with their emotional side.

• Emcee - The unseen emce at the Marquee in City Folk. She would be the one who announces Frillard's show. Her species is unknown.

• Farley - Farley is an unspecified humanoid creature (speculated to be a troll or a gnome) who lives in the wishing well in the first three Animal Crossing games. When the player has perfected the town, Farley will emerge and give the player a golden axe.

• Franklin - Franklin is a turkey. Whenever a harvest festival begins, Franklin would go into hiding until the players find him. His Japanese name is Furankurin.

• Frillard - Frillard (AKA Master Frillard) is an elderly frill-necked lizard who is known to help the player get in touch with emotions that are unknown to Dr. Shrunk in City Folk. The villagers claim that Frillard is Dr. Shrunk's teacher.

• Gracie - Gracie is a giraffe who works as a fashion designer. She would occasionally appear in undeveloped towns and impact the lives of the fashion-conscious villagers. In the Japanese game her gender is male and she is called Grace. She has a snooty personality.

• Gulliver - Gulliver is a seagull. In the first Animal Crossing, he is a sailor. In later games, he becomes an astronaut that would occasionally fly over the town in his UFO called the "Porpoise." Gulliver makes various references to other Nintendo games. E.g. in New Leaf he mentions Isle Delfino, a location in Super Mario Sunshine.
• Grams - Grams is a turtle (kappa in the Japanese version) who appears in New Leaf as an islander. She is Kapp'n's mother and works at the island with the rest of her family. Her job is selling souvenirs.

• Harriet - Harriet is a pink poodle that works as a hairdresser at the Shampoodle barbershop. She appears as a spectator in Super Smash Bros. Brawl in the Smashville stage. Her Japanese name is Catherine.

• Isabelle - Isabelle, formerly known as Hisho and Shizue,^[1] is a shih tzu dog that works as a secretary. She appears in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. She has her own Twitter account.

• Jack - Jack is a pumpkin-headed animal of an unknown species who would appear in town on Halloween. In exchange for candy, Jack would give the player any spooky furniture. He is absent in Wild World, where Halloween is not celebrated. His Japanese name is Pumpking, which reflects his self-given title.

• Jingle - Jingle is a reindeer who would appear on Christmas Eve. He is the only way to obtain objects from the Jingle series. He is present in every game apart from Wild World.

• Joan - Joan is a boar who comes to the player's town every Sunday morning at 6am to sell turnips. She will say that she has been selling turnips for over 60 years.

• K.K. Slider - K.K. Slider is a dog who works as a musician. His Japanese name is とたけけ (Totakeke). He is based on Kazumi Totaka, the Animal Crossing sound designer. He makes a cameo appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He does not put a price on his songs.

• Kaitlin - Kaitlin is a mother cat who is always looking for her daughter Katie.

• Kapp'n - Kapp'n is a turtle (kappa in the Japanese games) who is a sailor by nature and is a driver of various modes of transportation. He has rowed boats, driven taxi cabs, and has also driven buses, depending on the game.

• Katie - Katie is a young cat who is always getting separated from her mother Kaitlin. Her Japanese name is まいごちゃん (Maigo-chan).

• Katrina - Katrina is a black panther who works as a fortune teller. In the Japanese games, Katrina is a male. In the other adaptions, Katrina is a female. In Animal Crossing she has a male voice, but in Wild World and City Folk she has a female voice. She has a navy blue tint in her fur.

• Kicks - Kicks is a skunk who works as a shoeshiner. He first appears in City Folk and then New Leaf.
• Leila - Leila is a young turtle who is Kapp'n and Leilani's daughter and Grams' granddaughter. In New Leaf she works at the Island with Leilani and Grams.
• Leilani - A turtle (kappa in the Japanese version) who works at the Island in New Leaf alongside her daughter Leila and her mother-in-law Grams. Her job is to give the player a choice of island tours. She is very friendly towards the player.
• Leif - A sloth who is introduced in New Leaf. He is the first sloth to appear in the series. He runs the Gardening Store, which is merged with Timmy and Tommy's store after sufficient upgrades.

• Lloid - Lloid is a gyroid who runs the town's auction house. He first appears in City Folk.

• Luna - Luna is a tapir who appears in New Leaf who can be found in the Dream Suite, a salon where the player can visit other towns in their dreams. Her Japanese name is Yumemi, which is based on the myth of the baku, tapirs who eat sleeping people's dreams.

• Lyle - Lyle is a weasel who is an insurance agent who would sell insurance and give refunds on forged paintings. In later games, Lyle works at the Happy Room Academy in the city.

• Mayor Tortimer - Mayor Tortimer is a very old tortoise who is the mayor of the town that the players move in to. He would appear during holidays celebrating or giving out holiday-based prizes. In New Leaf, he has retired to the island where he now serves as the host of the island events.

• Nat - Nat is a chameleon who hosts the Bug-Off event in City Folk and New Leaf. His Japanese name is Kameyama-san. He is the only chameleon in the series.

• Pascal - Pascal is a sea otter who works as a philosopher. Pascal is known for his philosophical tendencies, making him well known amongst the villagers in the player's town. Most of his philosophy is marine-themed. He makes his first appearance in Wild World.

• Pavé - Pavé is a peacock who works as a dancer that appears on the holiday Festivale. Even though he is male, Pavé is often mistaken for a female due to his looks. He first appears in City Folk.

• Phineas - Phineas is a sea lion who first appears in City Folk and also appears in New Leaf. He is often found roaming the city, but never during rainy weather. He gives the player special hand-held items that the player cannot get anywhere else, for no purpose other than for joy and for free.

• Porter - Porter is a monkey who runs the train station. He coordinates transportation between villages. His Japanese name is えきいんさん.

• Redd - Redd, also known as Crazy Redd, is an untrustworthy fox (apart from in the Japanese games, where he is a kitsune) who runs an illicit furniture store called "Crazy Redd's." Red also sells counterfeit paintings and overpriced items at his store. Redd is also a rival of Tom Nook. He is based off the book Dante's Inferno where there is a drafter hell demon called Crazyred.

• Reese - Reese is a pink alpaca who appears in New Leaf alongside Cyrus, her husband, working at Re-Tail. Her Japanese name is リサ (Lisa).

• Rover - Rover is a cat who has a variety of jobs.

• Saharah - Saharah is a dromedary camel that specializes in trading rare carpets and wallpaper. In each game she has a different service. In the Japanese versions of the game she is a male called Roland.

• Serena - Serena is a chihuahua that is often found at the town's fountain in City Folk. Like Farley in earlier games, she can give the player an axe upgrade.
• Snowman - Snowman is a character who can be made by the player during winter with snowballs. The snowman's personality depends upon how well he has been made.

• Wendell - Wendell is a walrus who works as a traveling artist. He carries around a canvas and a traveler's backpack with him.
• White Owl - A bird first seen in New Leaf with no official name or gender. They sit on the bulletin board at night when a new message has been posted; in the daytime they are replaced by Yellow Bird.

• Wisp - Wisp is a character in the "Animal Crossing" series. In Animal Crossing, he is a ghost. In Animal Crossing: City Folk, he is a genie.
• Yellow Bird - Yellow bird is a bird who resembles a canary who has no official name or gender who is first seen in City Folk. They sit and chirp on the bulletin board when a new message has been posted. They are much small than villagers. They are sometimes mentioned by Normal villagers in conversations.

• Zipper T. Bunny - Zipper T. Bunny is an unknown animal in a rabbit suit who would appear on the holiday Bunny Day. He first appears in City Folk.

Other Villagers

The other villagers seen are NPCs who are scattered throughout the player's town and are sorted into the different categories:

Cranky Villagers

The Cranky Villagers are male villagers that are stubborn and are annoyed easily. They are the only deep-voiced villagers and are often recognizable by their frowns. They are generally unpopular with Peppy Villagers and get along easily with Snooty Villagers and other Cranky Villagers. They wake up at 10am each day and if the player tries to enter their house before this time they will be greeted with an angry letter saying, "I'm catching some Z's right now, wake me and REGRET IT". They compare themselves to other villagers as being 'older'.

There are 54 Cranky Villagers:

• Admiral - An unidentified green bird. His Japanese name is Ittetsu, meaning 'stubborn'. He has a protruding forehead, giving him a serious appearance.

• Angus - A brown bull. His name is derived from the Aberdeen Angus cow breed.

• Apollo - A bald eagle.

• Avery - An eagle. His name comes from aviary, a place for keeping birds.

• Boris - A blue pig. His Japanese name is Dari.

• Bruce - A dark blue deer who appears in New Leaf.

• Butch - A dog. He appears to be a rottweiler. His Japanese name is John.

• Buzz - A brown eagle. His name comes from buzzard, a bird of prey. His Japanese name is Hideyoshi.

• Camofrog - A frog. His Japanese name is フルメタル (Full Metal). He has appeared in every game in the series. He has a camouflage appearance, which his name refers to. His catchphrase 'ten-hut', an army term meaning 'come to my attention' also refers to his appearance.

• Cesar - An orange gorilla with a black handlebar moustache, named after Julias Caesar. His Japanese name is アラン (Alan).

• Chief - An orange wolf with a fox-like appearance.

• Chow - A pink panda. His Japanese name is Chauyan.

• Chuck - A brown bull. His name probably comes from ground chuck, a cut of meat. His initial phrase is 'jerky', in reference to beef jerky.

• Croque - A frog. His Japanese name is Taishi.

• Curt - A grey bear.

• Cyrano - An anteater. His Japanese name is さくらじま (Sakura-jima). His name refers to Cyrano de Bergerac.

• Del - A blue alligator. His Japanese name is Yamtato.

• Dyck - A bear. He only appears in Animal Forest e+.

• Elvis - A lion named after Elvis Presley. He is the only cranky lion in the series.

• Fang - A white wolf with a feminine appearance due to his purple eyelids which resemble eyeshadow. His Japanese name is Siberia. He appears in all games apart from Wild World.

• Flash - An unidentified bird.

• Frank - An eagle who resembles a parrot. He appears in Animal Forest e+ as an islander and returns in New Leaf as a villager. His Japanese name is Haruku, based on [[The Incredible Hulk]].

• Gaston - A yellow rabbit with a black moustache. His name and initial phrase 'mon chou', a term of endearment, suggest that he is French.

• Gonzo - A gray koala. His Japanese name is ゴンゾー.

• Grizzly - A grizzly bear.

• Groucho - A blue bear. His Japanese name is Kuro, in reference to the color of his fur.

• Gruff - A goat.

• Hamphrey - A black hamster. His Japanese name is Hamuji. He appears in New Leaf.

• Harry - A hippopotamus. He first appeared in Animal Forest e+ as an islander, and returns in City Folk as a villager.

• Hopper - A crested penguin. His initial phrase is 'slushie'. His Japanese name is Dalman.

• Joe - An unidentified purple bird. His Japanese name is ジョ.

• Jubei - A lion. He only appears in Animal Forest e+.

• Kabuki - A white cat named after the Japanese theater style of the same name. His Japanese name is Kabukichi.

• Knox - A grey chicken who dresses like a medieval knight. His Japanese name is キンカク (Kinkaku).

• Limberg - A mouse. His name is a shortening of Limburger cheese, which is a type of cheese with a strong odor. He has orange fur and a grey five o'clock shadow.

• Lobo - A wolf. His name comes from the Spanish word for wolf.

• Masa - A brown dog. He only appears in Animal Forest e+.

• O'Hare - A rabbit. His Japanese name is Santos.

• Octavian - An octopus. His Japanese name is Octarou. He is the first octopus in the series and the only cranky octopus.

• Monty - A monkey who tells the player that he is an 'old man'. His Japanese name is サルモンテイ (Sarumontei).

• Murphy - A bear cub.

• Oxford - A bull.

• Peewee - A black and blue gorilla. His Japanese name is Dumbbell.

• Pigleg - A pig islander. He loves oranges and is allergic to peaches.

• Pironkon - An alligator islander in Animal Forest e+.

• Rasher - A maroon pig. His name is derived from the term 'a rasher of bacon'. He appears in all games.

• Ricky - An orange and yellow squirrel. His Japanese name is Kajirou.

• Rizzo - A blue mouse. His Japanese name is Chorokichi.

• Rocco - A green hippopotamus. His Japanese name is Gonzales. He is the only hippo to have appeared in every game, and the only hippo in Wild World. He has a deep hatred for lazy villagers.

• Rolf - A white tiger. He appears in all the games.

• Rooney - A blue kangaroo. His Japanese name is マイク (Maiku), the equivalent of Mike. He is the first male kangaroo in the series.

• Roscoe - A black horse.

• Rowan - A tiger. In Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: City Folk, Rowan is a Jock.

• Spike - An orange rhinoceros. His Japanese name is Squat.

• Static - A purple squirrel. His name is based on the lightning bolt on his head.

• Tom - A blue cat.

• Twirp - An unidentified bird.

• Vic - A bull. His name relates to his Viking-like appearance and home decor. His Japanese name is Noruman.

• Vladimir - A bear cub.

• Walt - A kangaroo. He is the only male kangaroo apart from Rooney.

• Wolfgang - A Gray wolf. His Japanese name is Lobo.

• Wart Jr. - A frog.

Lazy Villagers

The Lazy Villagers are the male villagers who have a relaxed laid-back lifestyle. In Wild World they may mention reading Chillin' Magazine. They are often insulted by snooty villagers. They wake up at 8am.

There are 53 Lazy Villagers:

• Aisle - A blue bear cub. His Japanese name is アイル (Airu).

• Al - A gorilla who first appears in City Folk.

• Alfonso - An orange alligator. His Japanese name is Albert. He wears the Big Bro shirt, which features the "M" emblem on the Nintendo character Mario's cap and his catchphrase is 'it's a-me', which Mario says.

• Anchovy - An unidentified bird with thick black eyebrows.

• Barold - A bear cub. He wears large glasses.

• Beau - An orange deer. He debuts in New Leaf.

• Benedict - A chicken. His name comes from eggs benedict. His Japanese name is Peshimichi. He does not close his eyes when he smiles like most characters do.

• Benjamin - A dog.

• Big Top - An elephant who first appears in Animal Forest e+. He wears a helmet.

• Biskit - An orange dog. His Japanese name is Robin. In the Gamecube version he wears a pink Mod Shirt.

• Bob - A purple cat. His Japanese name is Nikoban. Many believe he is the first character in the series, as his birthday is January 1st and he appears in every game.

• Bones - A dog. His Japanese name is Tommy.

• Boomer - A penguin.

• Bow - A dog.

• Broccolo - A blue mouse. His Japanese name is ブロッコリー (Broccoli).

• Carlos - A sheep.

• Chester - A panda cub. His Japanese name is Panta.

• Chico - A brown mouse.

• Cole - A black rabbit. His name refers to his color.

• Claude - A brown rabbit. His Japanese name is ビネガー (Vinegar).

• Clay - A brown hamster.

• Clyde - A horse.

• Cranston - A white ostrich. His Japanese name is Tokio.

• Cube - An emperor penguin.

• Deli - A white monkey. His Japanese name is Dehli. He first appears in New Leaf.

• Derwin - A blue duck with orange hair and thick glasses, giving him a 'nerdy' appearance.

• Dizzy - A gray elephant. His Japanese name is Huge.

• Dobie - A wolf islander. His Japanese name is けん (Ken). He is the only lazy wolf in the series.

• Doc - A blue rabbit. His Japanese name is Tobio and his Spanish name is Crispín. He wears spectacles.

• Dozer - A purple bear. His Japanese name is Sleep.

• Drago - An alligator. His Japanese name is Tatsuo.

• Drake - A duck. If the player doesn't talk to him for awhile he will get sick.

• Egbert - A yellow chicken. He appears in every game in the series.

• Elmer - A horse. He appears in all games.

• Erik - A deer. His Japanese name is Chakku. He first appears in New Leaf.

• Filbert - A blue squirrel. His name comes from a type of hazelnut.

• Hornsby - A rhinoceros.

• Huck - A grey frog. His Japanese name is ストロー (Straw).

• Hugh - A blue pig. He has appeared in every game so far.

• Hornsby - A blue rhino.

• Jakoten - An unidentified bird. His Japanese name is ジャコテン. He gets along with peppy and normal villagers as well as other lazy villagers. He only appears in Animal Forest e+.

• Jeremiah - A blue frog. His Japanese name is Quattro, which means 'four' in Italian.

• Joey - A yellow duck. His Japanese name is リチャード (Richard).

• Kamaboko - A penguin.

• Kidd - A blue goat. He first appears in Animal Forest e+.

• Lucky - A dog who wears a full body cast. His Japanese name is ラッキー (Rakkī). He is in every game.

• Marcel - A dog.

• Masa - A brown dog. He only appears in Animal Forest e+.

• Moe - A cat. His Japanese name is ジンペイ (Jinpei). In the German version of City Folk he is called Mia, and in the German New Leaf he is Tristan.

• Nate - An orange bear with a green unibrow. He appears in every version except Wild World.

• Nobuo - A blue penguin. He may be named after Nobuo Uematsu, a Japanese video game composer.

• Otis - An unidentified bird.

• Ozzie - A koala. His Japanese name is Donguri, meaning acorn.

• Paolo - A pink elephant.

• Papi - A brown horse. He only appears in New Leaf.

• Pierre - A white cat who appears in Animal Forest e+.

• Prince - A frog with a circular beard. His Japanese name is Carl.

• Puck - A pink penguin. His Japanese name is Hockey.

• Pudge - An orange bear cub. His Japanese name is Kinzou.

• Punchy - A cat. His Japanese name is Binta and his Spanish name is Félix. He is featured on the cover of Animal Crossing and is in all games apart from Animal Forest.

• Pusuke - A blue rabbit. He only appears in Animal Foreste+.

• Rex - A lion. His Japanese name is Sunday.

• Rodeo - A bull.

• Rollo - A hippopotamus. His Japanese name is ピポクラテス(Hippocrates), after the philosopher, and his Spanish name is Hipo. He is the only lazy hippo.

• Simon - A monkey. His Japanese name is Etekichi, which he shares with a monkey carpenter from the anime series Nagasarete Airantou.

• Spork - A pig. His name is a play on pork. He is known as Crackle in the Australian and British versions, which may refer to crackling, a pig derivative food. His Japanese name is Pork.

• Stitches - A bear cub. His Japanese name is パッチ (Patch). He has crosses for eyes.

• Stu - A blue bull.

• Sven - A blue goat with white eyebrows and moustache, giving him an elderly appearance. He loves apples and is allergic to cherries. His Japanese name is チャマジ (Chamaji).

• T-Bone - A bull. He is named after steak cuts of beef. He is also a Cranky villager on New Leaf. His Japanese name is Borscht.

• Tucker - An elephant.

• Verdun - A gray bull islander. His name is literally translated as 'Well Done', a way that steak and other meats can be ordered.

• Walker - A black and white dog. His Japanese name is Ben.

• Weber - A brown duck. His Japanese name is Achotto. He only appears in the Gamecube version.

• Yodel - An islander gorilla. His Japanese name is ヨーデル.

• Zucker - An octopus in New Leaf. His Japanese name, タコヤ (Takoya) refers to takoyaki, a fried ball filled with diced octopus. His house resembles a conveyor belt sushi bar.

Jock Villagers

The Jock Villagers are the male villagers who are athletic and stupid, meeting the American jock stereotype. They find it difficult to get along with lazy villagers. The 72 Jock Villagers are:

• Ace - A blue bird. His Japanese name is Feza, a transliteration of feather. His catchphrase is "ace", shared by Rod.

• Analogue - A penguin. He appears in Dōbutsu no Mori e+.

• Antonio - An anteater. His Japanese name is マコト (Makoto). His first appearance is in Doubutsu no Mori e+ (2003). His birthday is October 20.

• Axel - A blue elephant. His Japanese nanme is エックスエル (XL).

• Aziz - A lion with a deep blue mane.

• Bam - A blue deer. His Japanese name is Takeru. He appears in New Leaf.

• Biff - A hippopotamus. His Japanese name is Gabriel.

• Bill - A duck. He appeared in every game so far. His birthday is February 1.

• Billy - A goat.

• Boone - A gorilla.

• Boots - An alligator.

• Buck - A horse. He appeared in every game thus far. His birthday is April 4.

• Bud - A lion. His birthday is August 8. His first appearance was in Doubutsu no Mori + (2001, GCN), where he was an islander.

• Champ - A monkey. He resembles Porter.

• Genji - A rabbit. He retains his Japanese name (ゲンジ). He has appeared in every game in the series so far. His birthday is January 21.

• Goose - A white chicken. He has appeared in every game in the series. His birthday is October 4.

• Hambo - A pig. His Japanese name is Hachimaki.

• Hamlet - A hamster. His Japanese name is Hamsuke

• Hank - A chicken.

• Hector - A chicken.

• Hulk - An eagle.

• Iggy - A goat.

• Iggly - A Magellanic Penguin.

• Jay - A jay bird.

• Jitters - An unidentified bird. He debuts in Wild World.

• Kid Cat - A white cat who wears a red helmet. He is one of the four superhero villagers. His birthday is August 1.

• Kit - A squirrel. He only appeared in Doubutsu no Mori e+ (2003).

• Kody - A blue bear cub. His appearance has changed a good deal throughout the series.

• Leonardo - A tiger. His first appearance is in Doubutsu no Mori e+ (2003), absent in Wild World (2005) and City Folk (2008), returns in New Leaf (2012/2013). His birthday is May 15.

• Leopold - A lion. His Japanese name is Teacher. He wears glasses and has a green mane.

• Louie - A gorilla.

• Lyman - A green koala. His Japanese name is Osmond.

• Mac - A brown dog. His Japanese name is Champ (not to be confused with another jock villager named Champ, a monkey that resembles Porter). His birthday is November 11.

• Moose - A blue mouse who appears in City Folk and New Leaf.

• Mott - A yellow lion. His Japanese name is Rick. He appears in City Folk. His birthday is July 10.

• Peck - A bird. He first appears in New Leaf.

• Pierce - An eagle. His birthday is January 8.

• Poncho - A blue bear cub. He has appeared in every game in the series so far. He retains his Japanese name (ポンチョ Poncho), like Genji did. His birthday is January 2.

• Quetzal - An eagle. His Japanese name is ハチェット.

• Ribbot - A robot frog.

• Roald - A penguin. He appeared in every game so far.

• Rod - A purple mouse. His first appearance was in Doubutsu no Mori e+ (2003). His catchphrase is "ace", which is shared with Ace (very first jock mentioned above).

• Rory - An orange lion. His name refers to the 'roar' lions make. His birthday is August 7.

• Rudy - A brown cat. His Japanese name is Chas. His birthday is December 20.

• Samson - A gray mouse. His Japanese name is Piece. His birthday is July 5.

• Scoot - A green duck. His Japanese name is Mamoru.

• Sheldon - A squirrel. He appears in New Leaf.

• Teddy - An orange bear. His Japanese name is たいへいた (Taiheita).

• Tybalt - A tiger. The name Tybalt comes from Romeo and Juliet.

• Woolio - A sheep. His name is a portmanteau of 'wool' and 'coolio'.

Smug Villagers

Smug villagers are new in New Leaf. They are male villagers who are kind and polite and occasionally flirt with the player.

• Beardo - A bear.

• Chadder - A mouse. His name is a pun on Cheddar.

• Chops - A pig. His name refers to pork chops.

• Colton - A horse. His name comes from the word 'colt', which means 'male horse'.

• Curlos - A sheep. In Animal Forest e+ he appears as a lazy villager.

• Ed - A horse.

• Eugene - A koala. His Japanese name is Rocky.

Hippeux - A green hippo.

• Jacques - A black bird.

• Julian - A horse. He has a horn.

• Ken - A rooster.

• Lucha - A bird. His name comes from the word 'luchador', a person who competes in lucha libre wrestling.

• Lopez - A white deer.

• O'hare - A rabbit islander. His Japanese name is サントス (Santos).

• Olaf - An anteater. Unlike most villagers, he wears pants.

• Pietro - A multicolored sheep. His Japanese name is Jupetti.

• Phil - An ostrich. He appears in New Leaf.

• Rodney - A hamster. His Japanese name is Jimi.

• Shep - A dog. His name comes from the [[sheepdog]] species of dog.

• Quillson - A duck.

• Tex - A penguin. His Japanese name is Boruto, meaning 'volt'.

• Zell - A deer. His Japanese name is Nelson. His antlers make him resemble a gazelle, hence his name.

Normal Villagers

The Normal Villagers (known as watashi in the Japanese games) are female villagers who are neutral. They have low self-esteem, enjoy cooking and appear slightly obsessive about cleanliness, a trait which is also found in peppy villagers. They wake up at 5am every day. The 54 Normal Villagers are:

• Alice - A koala. Her Japanese name is メルボルン (Melbourne), the state capital of Victoria, Australia. She has long dirty blonde hair and pink freckles. Her catchphrase is 'guvnor'.

• Annalisa - A white anteater. Her Japanese name is Miyabi. She appears in New Leaf.

• Aurora - A penguin. She has appeared in every Animal Crossing game.

• Ava - A white chicken. Her Japanese name is ドミグラ (Domigura).

• Bea - A brown dog. Her name is short for 'beagle', her breed. Her Japanese name is Bagel.

• Bertha - A shy teal hippopotamus.

• Bettina - An orange mouse. Her Japanese name is Maruko. She first appears in City Folk.

• Bessie - A cow.

• Betty - A chicken who enjoys cooking. Her Japanese name is ホイップ (Whip). Her house resembles a kitchen.

• Bliss - A red squirrel. She bears a strong resemblance to another normal squirrel character, Caroline. It has been suggested that Caroline is a renamed version of Bliss because of this and the fact that Bliss' Japanese name is キャロライン (Caroline).

• Cally - A squirrel.

• Caroline - A red squirrel. She bears a strong resemblance to Bliss, another squirrel character. In fact, Bliss' Japanese name is Caroline.

• Carrie - A kangaroo.

• Carrot - A cow islander in Animal Forest e+. Her name comes from her appearance; she has an orange body and green hair.

• Chevre - A goat.

• Clara - A pink hippopotamus. She only appears in Animal Forest e+.

• Coco - A rabbit. Her Spanish name is Cocolaca. She has appeared in every game. She has empty black eyes and mouth, and cannot show emotion through her eyes or mouth.

• Daisy - A white dog. Her Japanese name is Vanilla. She has appeared in every game.

• Deena - A green duck. Her Japanese name is Marimo, which means 'ball seaweed'.

• Dora - A white mouse. Her Japanese name is Tome. She has appeared in every game.

• Ellie - An elephant. Her Japanese name is Eclair.

• Emerald - A frog. Her Japanese name is ケロミ (Keromi).

• Eunice - A black sheep. She first appeared in Animal Forest. Her name is a reference to a sheep in "The Sheep Comics" called Eunice. Her Japanese name is Mohair. Her catchphrase is 'lambchop'.

• Faith - A koala islander. Her catchphrase is aloha, a Hawaiian greeting, and she wears a Red Ahola Shirt and a yellow flower behind her ear. She loves coconuts.

• Fauna - A deer.

• Flurry - A white hamster. Her Japanese name is Yukimi.

• Gala - A pink pig.

• Gayle - An alligator.

• Gladys - A black and white ostrich.

• Goldie - A golden Labrador Retriever. Her Japanese name is Caramel.

• Hazel - A squirrel. Her name comes from the nut, as nuts are commonly associated with squirrels.

• Isako - A pink cow islander in Animal Forest e+.

• Jambette - A frog. Her name is French for 'leggy'. Her Japanese name is Esmerelda.

• June - A bear cub. Her Japanese name is Mei. Her name may be a reference to her birthday, which is June 12th.

• Kiki - A black cat. Her Japanese name is Caviar.
• Koharu - A kangaroo. Her Japanese name is Spring Child.

• Kitt - A kangaroo. Her Japanese name is Applique. She has a joey that mirrors her emotions.

• Lily - A frog. Her name is in reference to lily pads.

• Liz - A pink alligator. Her name is short for 'lizard'.

• Lolly - A gray cat. Her Japanese name is ラムネ (Ramune).

• Lucy - A white pig. Her Japanese name is also Lucy.

• Sydney - A purple koala. She is named after the Australian city.

The Peppy Villagers are female villagers who are incessantly friendly and excitable. They are the youngest female villagers. There are 56 Peppy Villagers:

• Anabelle - A yellow anteater. Her Japanese name is Alumi.

• Anicotti - A green mouse. Her name comes from manicotti, a tube of pasta. Her Japanese name is (ラザニア (Lasagna). Her catchphrase, 'canoli', means 'little tube' and refers to an Italian pastry.

• Apple - A pink hamster.

• Bangle - A tiger. Her name comes from the Bengal species of tiger. Her Japanese name is ルーズ (Loose).

• Bella - A white mouse.

• Belle - A white cow with black spots.

• Bianca - A snow leopard who appears in New Leaf.

• Blessing - A dog.

• Bluebear - A blue bear. Her Japanese name is (グルミン (gurumin).

• Bonbon - A brown rabbit. Her Japanese name is ミミィ (Mimyi).

• Bubbles - An orange hippopotamus.

• Bunnie - A rabbit. Her Japanese name is Lillian.

• Candi - A pink mouse. She has dimples, large puffed cheeks and a striped tail. Her Japanese name is かんゆ (Kanyu).

• Charmy - A green bear cub. Her Japanese name is Cha-Mi. In New Leaf her English name is Charlise.

• Cheri - A red bear cub with a short attention span. Her name is based off the word 'cherry'. Her Japanese name is Acerola.

• Chrissy - A pink furred rabbit with white dots and blonde hair. Her Japanese name is Christine. Her first appearance is in Animal Crossing: City Folk.

• Cookie - A pink dog with anime-styled eyes. Her Japanese name is Perrine.

• Dotty - A white Dutch rabbit. Her Japanese name is マーサ (Martha).

• Felicity - A cat. Her Japanese name is Mikacchi. She has brown hair.

• Flora - A pink ostrich. She greatly resembles a flamingo.

• Flossie - An orangemouse islander. Her Japanese name is Pistachio.

• Freckles - A duck. Her Japanese name is Maguro.

• Gabi - A white rabbit. Her Japanese name is ペチカ (Pechika), which means Russian oven.

• Huggy - A koala. Her name comes from Huggies diapers which have koala on the packaging. Her Japanese name is Dakko, which may come from the popular inflatable character Dakko-chan (embraceable).

• Ketchup - An orange duck with green hair. She appears in Animal Forest e+.

• Leigh - An orange chicken. Her name is a pun of 'lay', the word used when a chicken lays its eggs. Her Japanese name is Diana.

• Lulu - There were two different characters in the franchise called Lulu. The Lulu that lives on an island in Animal Forest e+ is an anteater and the Lulu that lives in the village is ahippopotamus.
• Julia - A blue ostrich islander who appears in Animal Forest e+.

• Maddie - A brown dog who appears in Animal Crossing. Her Japanese name is Marron.

• Marcy - A pink kangaroo. Her name is short for 'marsupial', the category of mammal that kangaroos fall under. She carries a joey in her pouch.

• Megumi - A pink dog. Her Japanese name is Blessing.

• Meow - A cat. Her Japanese name is ミャウ (Muaw).

• Merry - A cat. Her Japanese name is Satchi, meaning 'inference'.

• Nibbles - A green squirrel. Her Japanese name is ガリガリ (Garigari), which refers to a popular Japanese popsicle, Gari-gari Kun.

• Pango - A blue spiny anteater. Her name is a shortened version of 'pangolin', also known as the scaly anteater. Pangolins are not actually anteaters. Her Japanese name is Patora.

• Pate - A blue female duck with a boyish appearance. She has short brown hair and anxious looking eyebrows. Her Japanese name is Nakki.

• Patricia - A yellow rhinoceros islander. She only appears in Animal Forest e+.

• Patty - A brown cow. Her Japanese name is Karupi.

• Paula - A brown bear. Her Japanese name is Reicheru. She first appears in Animal Forest e+ then again in New Leaf.

• Peanut - A pink squirrel. Her Japanese name is ももこ (momoko), which means 'peach girl'. She is easily upset when talking to the player, but due to her short attention span will forget having had the conversation in the first place.

• Peggy - A pig. Her Japanese name is Chieri. She appears in Animal Forest e+ and City Folk.

• Penelope - A mouse.

• Penny - A mouse. Her Japanese name is ネズこ (nezuko),

• Pinky - A white and purple bear. She has been in every Animal Crossing game so far. Her Japanese name is タンタン (Tantan).

• Piper - An unidentified bird.

• Pippy - A rabbit. Her Japanese name is Lotta.

• Plucky - A brown chicken. Her Japanese name is Pataya.

• Pompom - A duck. Her Japanese name is Norippe.

• Puddles - A pink frog. Her Japanese name is Choki. She appears in all games.

• Rachel - A bear.

• Rio - A red ostrich. Her Japanese name is De Janeiro.

• Rosie - A blue cerulean cat. Her Japanese name is Bouquet.

• Ruby - An albino rabbit. Her name comes from the red gemstone ruby, which is the same colour as her eyes. Her Japanese name is ルナ (Luna).

• Sprinkle - A penguin. Her Japanese name is Furappe, which comes from Frappe iced coffee.

• Tabby - A tabby cat. Her Japanese name is Torako.

• Tammi - A monkey.

• Tangy - A orange cat. Her name comes from her citrussy appearance. She has a leaf on her head and dents on her body like there are on the peel of an orange, clementine, or tangerine. Her house has the Citrus theme.

• Truffles - A pig. Her name refers to how pigs hunt for truffles. Her Japanese name is Tonko.

• Tutu - A polar bear. Her Japanese name is Rennyuu.

• Twiggy - A canary. Her Japanese name is Pichiku, meaning 'tweet'.

• Victoria - A horse. Her Japanese name is セントアロー (Centaur).

• Wendy - A blue sheep.

• Winnie - A horse.

Snooty Villagers

The Snooty Villagers are female villagers who are big-headed and arrogant and are often portrayed wearing make-up that match their clothes. The 54 Snooty Villagers are:

• Alli - A blue polka-dotted alligator. Her Japanese name is クロコ (Croco), a shortening of 'crocodile'.

• Amelia - An eagle. She resembles the Red and Lappet-faced vultures.

• Ankha - A cat. Her named is based on the ankh, an Egyptian hieroglyphic character that reads 'life'. She wears an Egyptian headdress and has stylized Egyptian eyes. In Animal Crossingshe is an islander.

• Annalise - a flowered horse, her Japanese name is Ariana and appears in New Leaf.
• Millie- a reindeer. A pink reindeer with cute eyes.
• Doris a lion cub with blonde fur and pink hair and blue eye shadow with three eye lashes on each side.

• Astrid - A kangaroo. Her name is derived from 'astrology' and she initially wears a shirt with a star pattern and has a star around her eye.

• Baabara - A sheep. Her name is a pun based on the 'bah'ing noise that sheep make.

• Becky - A chicken. Her Japanese name is Aria. She first appears in Animal Forest e+.

• Bitty - A pink hippopotamus.

• Blaire - A squirrel. She has appeared in all games.

• Blanche - A stork. Her Japanese name is しのぶ (Shinobu).

• Bree - A white mouse with dark green hair. Her Japanese name is サラ (Sara).

• Broffina - A chicken.

• Carmen - A pink mouse. Her Japanese name is Jelly.

• Cashmere - A sheep. Her Japanese name is L'Amour. She often calls herself or the player fat and may give beauty or dieting tips.

• Claudia - A pink tiger. Her Japanese name is Maririn.

• Cleo - A horse. Her catchphrase is 'sugar'.

• Cupcake - A bear cub. Her catchphrase is 'sugar pie'. Her Japanese name is Crispy.

• Diana - A deer.

• Elina - An orange elephant islander who wears a bindi.

• Elise - A yellow monkey. Her Japanese name is Monko.

• Eloise - A yellow elephant. Her Japanese name is Elefin. She has appeared in every Animal Crossing game so far.

• Francine - A white rabbit.

• Maelle - A yellow duck. Her name means 'ambitious'.

• Mallary - A duck. Her name is a reference to her species, mallard duck.

• Mathilda - A kangaroo. Her name refers to 'Waltzing Matilda', a popular song in Australia where kangaroos live.

• Mint - A squirrel. Her Japanese name is ミント (Mint).

• Miranda - A pink duck. Her Japanese name is also Miranda.

• Monique - A cat. Her Japanese name is Jane. She resembles the actress Marilyn Monroe in her facial appearance.

• Naomi - A cow.

• Natasha - A black squirrel.

• Olivia - A siamese cat. Her Japanese name is オリビア.

• Opal - An elephant.

• Pancetti - A brown pig. Her name comes from pancetta, a type of smoked bacon. Her Japanese name is Buritonī. She appears in New Leaf.

• Tipper - A cow.

• Ursala - A pink bear. Her name comes from the Latin word 'ursa', meaning bear. Her Japanese name is Neeya.

• Valise - A kangaroo. 'Valise' means 'small piece of luggage'. This may refer to her carrying her joey in her pouch.

• Velma - A goat. She bears a physical resemblance to Velma Dinkley.

• Violet - A gorilla. Her Japanese name is ウズメ (Uzume).

• Vanessa - A wolf.

• Whitney - A white wolf.

• Willow - A sheep.

• Yuka - A koala. Her name may come from 'yukka', a name for eucalyptus plants which koalas eat the leaves of.

Uchi Villagers

The uchi villagers are female villagers with a personality type that was introduced in New Leaf that is a mixture of peppy, snooty, and normal personalities. They are caring towards the player and are less vain than Snooty or Peppy villagers. 'Uchi' is a Japanese word that means 'big sister'.

• Agnes - A black pig who appears in New Leaf. Her Japanese name is Agunesu.
• Canberra - A koala who appears in New Leaf. Her name comes from the capital city of Australia of the same name.

• Charlise - A green bear islander. Her Japanese name is チャーミー.

• Cherry - A pink dog in New Leaf. Her Japanese name is Hanna.

• Deirdre - A grey deer in New Leaf.

• Diva - A blue frog.

• Flo - A penguin.

• Francine - A rabbit. Her Japanese name is Francois. She is the 'inverted' version of Chrissy.

• Frita- A sheep. Her name is Spanish for 'french fries', and she has fur that appears to be made from french fries.

• Fuchsia - A pink deer.

• Hazel - A squirrel with a prominent unibrow. Her catchphrase, 'uni-wow' relates to this.

• Katt - A cat. Her Japanese name is Choi.

• Mira - A yellow rabbit. Her Japanese name is Mirako.

• Muffy - A black sheep.

• Pashmina - A brown goat.

• Phoebe - A ostrich.

• Paula - A bear. In Animal Forest e+ she has a peppy personality.
